Targetron vs LeadReef: a prospect database, or a web-design pitch engine?

Marcus HaleSeptember 5, 20268 min read

Prices and features come from Targetron’s live site and LeadReef’s.

Targetron and LeadReef both start you off with local businesses to pitch, but they are built for different ends of the job. Targetron is a prospect database. You filter it, and it hands you a list. LeadReef is a finished tool for one job: turning a business with a weak site into a pitch you can send.

This is our page, so here is the bias up front. As a database with filters and a free tier, Targetron does things we do not, and we will say where. What it does not do is judge a site, build a page, or write the outreach. That is the work LeadReef exists to do.

Here is the summary at a glance, then the detail.

How LeadReef and Targetron compare, feature by feature.

What Targetron is

Targetron is a business database for lead generation. It aggregates public business data from around the world into one searchable directory. Its strength is the filtering. You narrow by category, location and business signals, including whether a business has a website, and it shows the result count before you export. Each record carries contact details, and you can pull the list to CSV or Excel or send it to your CRM through the API. You can see it all on their site.

Targetron runs on a free tier that gives your first 50 records at no cost, then charges per record with no subscription at all: their pricing states plainly that there is no monthly fee and no recurring billing, and that tiers reset every 30 days. Above the free 50 it is $15 per 1,000 records up to 5,000, dropping to $10 per 1,000 between 5,000 and 50,000.

Where Targetron’s database wins

Targetron is a genuinely strong prospecting database. Its free tier is generous: 50 leads free, where our own free plan grants zero credits. Its filters are the real draw. Deep and fast, with counts shown up front, so you can carve a global database down to exactly the businesses you want. It exports clean to CSV and Excel and pushes to a CRM through an API. For building a broad B2B prospect list and working it your own way, Targetron is built for the task.

Targetron's pricing page: no monthly subscription fee, no recurring billing, pay only for the data, tiers reset every 30 days. Free Tier $0 for the first 50 businesses; Startup Tier $15 per 1,000 records for usage from 51 to 5,000; Business Tier $10 per 1,000 records for usage from 5,000 to 50,000, which adds API access. All tiers include CSV, XLSX, JSON and PARQUET export, advanced filters, map area search, email addresses and phone numbers.
Targetron’s own pricing. No subscription: the first 50 records are free, then $15 per 1,000, falling to $10 above 5,000.

Where LeadReef hands over more than a list

LeadReef is built for the step Targetron leaves to you: the pitch. It does not just filter a list. It reads the existing site and scores the opportunity from 0 to 100, with plain problem labels. Then it builds a prototype of a better page from the business’s own reviews and photos, and drafts a cold email and an SMS. LeadReef never sends anything. You send it, so the relationship stays yours.

The two also aim differently. Targetron is a general B2B database, good for any list. LeadReef is tuned to one trade, selling redesigns. Its Fisher AI searches three sources for it: Maps on every plan, and on Pro and Scale, Ads for businesses already paying to get found, and Open Web for failing sites in no directory. Two caveats we will state plainly. LeadReef has no deep filters and no bulk CSV or API, because it hands over a built pitch, not a list, and Recent Ads and Open Web sit on the Pro tier.

LeadReef's own pricing page: Starter $14 a month with 60 AI credits, lead finding on Maps, full client prototypes you can generate, preview and inspect, and cold email plus SMS drafts; Pro $39 a month with 250 credits, the Maps, Recent Ads and Open Web lead sources, unlimited prototypes, live publishing, custom domains and no LeadReef branding; Scale $89 a month with 600 credits, all lead sources, priority AI generation, brand-voice messaging, site code export and priority support. Pro is marked as the plan most operators pick.
LeadReef’s own pricing page. One pool of credits funds finding, building and drafting on every paid plan.

One row, taken all the way to a pitch

Say you want dentists with no website. Targetron filters to them in seconds, shows how many there are, and lets you export the list or push it to your CRM, free for the first 50. That is a fast, clean prospect list. What it will not tell you is which dentist’s current site is worst, nor build a better one, nor write the note that wins the job.

LeadReef takes a dentist with a weak or missing site, scores the opportunity, mocks up a stronger page, and drafts the email and text to send. You edit a line and send. One tool builds your list; the other closes the sale.

What each one costs

Targetron wins the free tier outright: your first 50 records cost nothing, while ours grants none. After that it charges per record with no subscription — $15 per 1,000, or $10 per 1,000 once you pass 5,000 — so a big list is cheap and a small one is nearly free. LeadReef’s Starter is $14 a month, and each credit buys a score, a prototype and a drafted pitch, not a row in a database. So the honest read is a free, broad list against a small run of finished pitches. Pick by which one your work needs.

List builder, or pitch builder

Pick LeadReef if your job is selling web redesigns and you want the pitch built for you. It scores the lead, builds a prototype, and drafts the cold email and SMS, for $14 a month, across three sources on Pro. It fits the freelancer or agency who wins on the pitch, not on the size of a list.

Pick Targetron if you want a broad prospect database you can filter, with a free tier, and you are happy to judge, build and write yourself. On database filtering and free volume it does more than we do, and for list building it is made for the task.

LeadReef also runs a partner program with a recurring commission, which matters if you recommend your stack to other freelancers. There is a partner page if that is you.

The short version

Targetron is a searchable database with sharp filters and a generous free tier, built for B2B lists of any kind. LeadReef is a narrow tool for one job, selling web redesigns. It judges the site, builds the prototype, and writes the pitch. Targetron fills your list; LeadReef turns a name on it into a sale. If a broad, filterable database with a free tier is what your work needs, Targetron is made for that, and it does it well.

How we checked

We drew the Targetron details here from their live pages, mostly their home page, where the filters, the free 50 leads and the export options are listed. We checked the free tier, the filtering and website-presence signal, the CSV and API export, and that it does not score, build or draft. We did not pay for a Targetron plan. Prices change, so where this page and Targetron’s disagree, theirs wins. Ours are taken from LeadReef’s public pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Is LeadReef a good Targetron alternative?

It depends on the job. Targetron is a filterable B2B lead database with a free tier, where you can filter to businesses with no website and export the list or push it to your CRM. LeadReef is purpose-built for selling web redesigns, so it scores the site, builds a prototype and drafts the cold email and SMS.

Targetron vs LeadReef: what is the real difference?

Targetron finds and filters business records, then hands them over. It does not score a lead, judge a site, build a page or write a message. LeadReef does that whole web-design workflow, across three sources (Recent Ads and Open Web on Pro), and hands you a scored lead, a prototype and a drafted pitch.

Can Targetron find businesses without a website?

Yes. You can filter by website presence, so a list of no-website businesses is easy to build. What it does not do is judge how weak an existing site is, build a replacement, or write the pitch. LeadReef does all three, and it covers failing sites as well as missing ones.

Does Targetron have a free tier?

Yes, the first 50 leads are free, which is more than LeadReef’s free plan, where $0 grants zero credits. LeadReef’s paid Starter is $14/mo, and each credit produces a scored lead, a built prototype and a drafted pitch, not just a record.

Which should I pick, Targetron or LeadReef?

Want a broad, filterable prospect database with a free tier to build B2B lists, pick Targetron. Want to find, judge, build and pitch web redesigns without assembling that yourself, pick LeadReef. They are built for different jobs.

If you want the scored lead and the built page in view, you can create a free LeadReef account and look around. The account is free and holds no credits, so finding and building need a paid plan, but you are charged only when you run something.
