LeadsByLocation vs LeadReef: an audit report, or a built page?

Marcus HaleSeptember 5, 20268 min read

Everything below is drawn from the two products’ current pages.

LeadsByLocation and LeadReef both start in the same place. They find local businesses whose site is weak or missing, and score how bad it is. LeadsByLocation is good at that half, and it packages the result neatly. Where the two part is what you carry into the pitch.

This is our page, so here is the bias up front. LeadsByLocation hands you a tidy kit to pitch with, and we will show you where that kit beats ours. It builds no replacement page, though, and writes no note to open the door. That is the part LeadReef does, and it starts cheaper.

The overview is in the table; the reasons follow it.

How LeadReef and LeadsByLocation compare, feature by feature.

What LeadsByLocation gives you

LeadsByLocation is a lead finder for people who sell website work. You search a city and a trade, and it pulls local businesses from Google’s data, the same source behind Maps and Search. It reads each one’s Google PageSpeed and mobile scores to flag the slow, broken and missing sites. Every lead comes with the phone, email and address, and you can download a group as a CSV, track it from New to Contacted to Closed, and hand the owner a white-label PDF audit. The detail is all on their site.

Pricing starts at $15 a month for 25 searches, one credit per search, and climbs through Solo at $39, Growth at $79 and Agency at $149. The audit PDF most people picture when they read “audit tool” is not on the entry plan: PDF reports begin on Growth at $79, and the white-label version on Agency at $149. Credits reset each cycle. The tiers above that entry price are shown after you sign up rather than on the public page, so the $15 start is the number we can quote. It is on their home page.

Where LeadsByLocation wins on volume

LeadsByLocation does bulk prospecting in ways we do not. As a bulk-prospecting kit it does things we do not. It hands you real contact details on every lead, phone and email, then lets you export a whole search as a CSV to work through however you like. LeadReef shows contacts but has no bulk export. Its white-label PDF audit is a real artifact too, on the $149 Agency plan. You can email an owner a clean report on their own site, with your name on it, and nothing of ours does that. It also tracks prospects in a simple pipeline. If your workflow is list, export, audit, send, LeadsByLocation is built for it.

LeadsByLocation's pricing page: Starter $15 a month for 25 searches and up to 500 leads; Solo $39 a month for 125 searches and up to 2,500 leads; Growth $79 a month for 400 searches and up to 8,000 leads, which is the first plan to include PDF audit reports; Agency $149 a month for 900 searches and up to 18,000 leads, adding white-label PDF reports and priority support. Every plan bills one credit per search and includes full contact info and website quality scores.
LeadsByLocation’s own pricing. The entry plan buys 25 searches; the audit PDF starts at $79 and the white-label version at $149.

Where LeadReef trades volume for a finished pitch

LeadReef adds one thing. The fix, made visible. LeadsByLocation tells the owner their site scores badly. LeadReef builds a prototype of the better one, from the business’s own reviews and photos, and then drafts a cold email and an SMS for that specific owner. LeadReef never sends anything. You send it, so the relationship stays yours. You are not mailing a verdict on their site. You are showing them a rebuilt one.

The read on the site is close to a tie. LeadsByLocation scores it with PageSpeed and mobile checks; LeadReef scores each lead 0 to 100 and labels the problems in plain words. Where LeadReef looks wider is the finding. LeadsByLocation searches one source, Google. LeadReef’s Fisher AI searches three. Maps is on every plan. On Pro and Scale, Ads adds businesses already paying to get found, and Open Web reaches failing sites in no directory. Two caveats we will state plainly: LeadReef has no white-label PDF audit and no bulk CSV export, and publishing the prototype to a live URL is a Pro feature. On the paperwork, LeadsByLocation wins.

LeadReef's own pricing page: Starter $14 a month with 60 AI credits, lead finding on Maps, full client prototypes you can generate, preview and inspect, and cold email plus SMS drafts; Pro $39 a month with 250 credits, the Maps, Recent Ads and Open Web lead sources, unlimited prototypes, live publishing, custom domains and no LeadReef branding; Scale $89 a month with 600 credits, all lead sources, priority AI generation, brand-voice messaging, site code export and priority support. Pro is marked as the plan most operators pick.
LeadReef’s own pricing page. One pool of credits funds finding, building and drafting on every paid plan.

One business, worked through

Say you find a plumber whose site is slow and breaks on a phone. LeadsByLocation flags the low PageSpeed, gives you the plumber’s phone and email, and — if you are on the $149 plan — a white-label PDF that says, in your name, what is wrong. That is a solid leave-behind. What it will not do is build that better page, or draft the message that earns a reply. Both are still on you.

With LeadReef you get a prototype of that plumber’s page, built from their reviews and photos, and a cold email and a text drafted to go with it. You edit a line and send. The plumber opens a link to their own shop, redone, not a PDF telling them it is broken. One tool documents the problem; the other shows the answer.

Cost per lead, both ways

LeadsByLocation starts at $15 a month for 25 searches and nothing else; LeadReef’s Starter is $14 for 60 credits that fund searching, building and drafting alike. Neither advertises a free tier that does real work, and LeadReef’s free plan grants zero credits. You are paying either way to find and score, and LeadReef costs less to start. LeadsByLocation’s price buys the exports and the audit PDFs; LeadReef’s lower one buys the prototype and the drafted pitch.

Bulk research, or a finished pitch

Pick LeadReef if your bottleneck is the pitch, not the list. It scores the lead, builds a prototype, and drafts the cold email and SMS to send it with, for $14 a month, across three lead sources on Pro. It fits the seller who can close once an owner looks but struggles to make one look.

Pick LeadsByLocation if you work leads in bulk and pitch with a document. Its contacts, CSV exports and audit PDFs are made for that, and on that workflow it does more than we do — though the PDF arrives on the $79 plan and the white-label version on the $149 one.

LeadReef also runs a partner program with a recurring commission, which matters if you end up recommending your stack to other freelancers. There is a partner page if that is you.

What it comes down to

Both tools find local businesses with weak sites and score how bad they are. One packages the pitch as paperwork: a scored list, contacts, a CSV, and a white-label audit PDF to hand over. The other builds the fix itself and writes the note that sends it, for less and from more lead sources. A report tells an owner their site is broken; a prototype shows them the one that is not. If your job is to run a big list and pitch with an audit in hand, LeadsByLocation is built for that, and it does it well.

How we checked this

We pulled the LeadsByLocation facts here from their live pages, mostly their home page, where the features and the from-$15 price are listed. We checked the price, the Google data source, the PageSpeed scoring, the contacts and CSV export, the white-label PDF and pipeline, and whether it drafts outreach or builds a page. Their full pricing tiers sit behind signup, so we quote only the entry price they publish. We bought no LeadsByLocation plan. Numbers change over time, so LeadsByLocation’s live page wins over anything here. LeadReef’s own numbers are the published ones.

Questions we get

Is LeadReef a good LeadsByLocation alternative?

If you would rather show the owner the fix than mail them a report, yes. Both find local businesses with weak or missing sites and score them. LeadsByLocation exports contacts, a CSV and a white-label audit PDF; LeadReef builds a prototype and drafts the cold email and SMS. It also starts at $14/mo against $15.

LeadsByLocation vs LeadReef: what is the real difference?

LeadsByLocation is a finder and an audit-report tool. It scores the site with Google PageSpeed, hands you contacts, a CSV export, a white-label PDF and a pipeline to track prospects. It builds no page and writes no message. LeadReef builds a prototype and drafts the outreach to send with it, across three lead sources (Recent Ads and Open Web on Pro), for less.

Does LeadsByLocation build a website?

No. It scores the existing site and gives you an audit report and contacts, but building the replacement is on you. LeadReef builds a single-page prototype from the business’s own reviews and photos, then drafts the pitch to go with it.

Does LeadsByLocation write outreach messages?

No. It gives you an audit PDF to pitch with — on the $79 Growth plan, white-labelled on the $149 Agency plan — not a written email or text. LeadReef drafts a cold email and an SMS for that specific business, and you send them yourself.

Which is cheaper, LeadReef or LeadsByLocation?

LeadReef starts at $14/mo for 60 credits that fund finding, building and drafting; LeadsByLocation starts at $15/mo for 25 searches, with the audit PDF from $79 and white-label from $149. Neither advertises a free tier that does real work, and LeadReef’s free plan grants zero credits, so finding and building need a paid plan on both.

If a scored lead and a built page are what you want to see, you can create a free LeadReef account and have a look. It is free and grants zero credits, so finding and building need a paid plan, and you are billed only when you run something.
