# Use LeadReef in Cursor

> LeadReef works in Cursor as a remote MCP server. Once it is added, the Cursor agent can find local businesses with no website or a weak one, read their contacts and draft the pitch, right next to your code. It works with any LeadReef plan. Setup takes about 2 minutes.

## What you need

- **Cursor with the agent.** Add the server for yourself in ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or for one project in .cursor/mcp.json in its folder.
- **Any LeadReef plan.** The free plan includes 1 search a day. Searches use the same credits as in the app.

## Connect in 5 steps

1. **Open Customize → MCP servers.** In Cursor, add a custom MCP server. It opens mcp.json.
2. **Paste the block below.** Save the file. leadreef appears in the server list.

   ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

   ```
   {
  "mcpServers": {
    "leadreef": {
      "url": "https://api.leadreef.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}
   ```
3. **Sign in when asked.** Cursor opens LeadReef in your browser. Sign in with your LeadReef account.
4. **Click Allow.** LeadReef asks you to approve an app on this computer. Allow it only if you just started the connection.
5. **Ask the agent.** Open the agent chat and ask for leads. Cursor may ask you to approve each tool call.

## First prompts to try

LeadReef finds the businesses and their contacts. The agent does the rest: files, tables and drafts of the first email.

- "Use LeadReef to find dentists in Austin with no website, save them to leads.csv and draft an email to the best one."
- "Use LeadReef to list my leads from the last search that have an email, as a Markdown table."
- "Use LeadReef to get the contacts for my top 3 leads and add them to contacts.json."
- "Use LeadReef: how many credits do I have left?"

## If it does not work

- **leadreef shows an error in the server list.** Check that mcp.json is valid JSON and the URL is exactly https://api.leadreef.ai/mcp, then switch the server off and on.
- **The browser never opens to sign in.** Open the MCP server list in Cursor and start the sign-in from the leadreef entry.
- **The agent does not use LeadReef.** Mention LeadReef in the prompt, and check that the server is switched on in the MCP list.
- **Allow keeps looping back to sign-in.** Try again in your default browser, or in a private window. Make sure you sign in to the same LeadReef account each time.
- **Searches stop with a limit message.** You used the free plan's daily search, ran out of credits, or reached 10 searches a minute. Reading leads still works. The limits are listed in the technical reference.

## Questions about Cursor

### Is my code sent to LeadReef?

No. LeadReef only receives the tool calls the agent makes, such as the business type and city of a search. Your code stays between you and Cursor.

### Can the agent send emails to leads?

No. LeadReef's server cannot send messages. The agent can draft an email from the lead's details, and you send it yourself.

### Can I add it to one project only?

Yes. Put the same block in .cursor/mcp.json in the project folder. Each teammate signs in with their own LeadReef account.

### Does it cost extra?

No. Reading leads is free. Searches use your LeadReef credits, and the LeadReef free plan includes 1 search a day.
