# Use LeadReef in ChatGPT

> LeadReef works in ChatGPT as a custom MCP server. Once it is connected, you ask ChatGPT in plain words to find local businesses with no website or a weak one, read their contacts and draft the pitch. It needs ChatGPT on the web: Business, Enterprise and Edu get full access, Pro gets read-only tools. Setup takes about 2 minutes.

## What you need

- **ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu.** Full access, including searches. On Business, Enterprise and Edu only a workspace admin or owner can add and publish the server; members then pick it in their chats. Pro can connect custom servers with read-only tools: you can read leads, but not start a search. Set up on the web; the mobile apps cannot add custom servers.
- **Any LeadReef plan.** The free plan includes 1 search a day. Searches use the same credits as in the app.

## Connect in 6 steps

1. **Open ChatGPT Plugins.** On the web, go to chatgpt.com/plugins and click +.
2. **Choose “Add custom MCP server”.** Name it LeadReef.
3. **Paste the server URL.** Paste https://api.leadreef.ai/mcp under Connection, choose OAuth, then click “Create as a plugin”.
4. **Sign in to LeadReef.** A LeadReef window opens. Sign in with your LeadReef account.
5. **Click Allow.** The window lists what ChatGPT will be able to do: read your leads and run searches. You return to ChatGPT.
6. **Pick LeadReef in a chat.** Type @ in the message box, choose LeadReef, then ask for leads.

## First prompts to try

LeadReef finds the businesses and their contacts. ChatGPT does the rest in the same chat: tables, ranking, and drafts of the first email.

- "@LeadReef find plumbers in Chicago with no website or a weak one and draft a short email to the top lead."
- "@LeadReef show my leads from the last search that have a phone number, sorted by rating."
- "@LeadReef for my top 5 dentists in Austin, list what is wrong with each website in one line."
- "@LeadReef how many credits do I have left?"

## If it does not work

- **“Add custom MCP server” is missing.** Your workspace admin may have turned custom MCP servers off, or your plan does not include them. Ask the admin, or check that you are on Business, Enterprise or Edu.
- **ChatGPT reads leads but will not start a search.** On Pro, custom servers get read-only tools, so searches are not available. Run the search in LeadReef, then read the results from ChatGPT.
- **LeadReef does not show up under @.** Start a new chat and type @ again. If it is still missing, open chatgpt.com/plugins and check that LeadReef is connected.
- **Allow keeps looping back to sign-in.** Allow third-party cookies for chatgpt.com and leadreef.ai, or try in a private window. Make sure you sign in to the same LeadReef account each time.
- **Searches stop with a limit message.** You used the free plan's daily search, ran out of credits, or reached 10 searches a minute. Reading leads still works. The limits are listed in the technical reference.

## Questions about ChatGPT

### Does OpenAI see my leads?

ChatGPT sees the data LeadReef returns in the chats where you use it, the same as anything else you share in a chat, and OpenAI's policies apply to that chat. LeadReef does not send your account data to OpenAI outside those calls.

### Can ChatGPT send emails to leads?

No. LeadReef's server cannot send messages. ChatGPT can draft an email from the lead's details, and you send it yourself.

### Does it work on ChatGPT Plus or in the mobile app?

Custom MCP servers are set up on the web, on Business, Enterprise and Edu, with read-only tools on Pro. Plus and the mobile apps cannot add them.

### Does it cost extra?

No. Reading leads is free. Searches use your LeadReef credits, and the LeadReef free plan includes 1 search a day.
